Moultrie's nurse named state's best!

NANCY BAKER:
South Carolina School RN of the Year

At the South Carolina Annual School Nurse Conference on Friday, January 20, 2012, the state’s Department of Health and Environmental Control and Department of Education presented the South Carolina School Registered Nurse of the Year award to Nurse Nancy Baker of Moultrie Middle School.  The award publicly recognizes the outstanding contributions by an RN currently practicing as a school nurse.

Nurse Baker, a Nationally Certified School Nurse, is described by community and supervisors as being an insightful, caring, and empathetic professional. She has worked in CCSD for 18 years and is perceived by her colleagues to be a pioneer in school nursing and a mentor, who has helped develop some of the district’s procedures and who has implemented nationally-proven health care practices.

Here at Moultrie Middle School, Nurse Baker maintains a strong community presence and works with local partners to meet the needs of her students and fellow employees.  She led the school’s recent DHEC flu clinics and continuously encourages members of the school community to participate in health-focused events and contests. Through grants and donations, she has earned playground equipment and incentive prizes for health initiatives. She is currently working with Charleston County Parks and Recreation and Charleston County Tourism for a formal playground development project specific to her student population. Nurse Baker has secured small prizes from businesses to reward students and staff for their participation in Zumba, tennis, Pilates, yoga and a walking group. She also developed Weight Watchers at Work and organized group meetings at the school. She educates staff, patients and families by raising awareness of breast cancer, autism, diabetes, and other wellness topics. She works closely with various organizations including Susan B. Komen, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Autism, MUSC’s Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness (formerly known as the MUSC Lean Team), Louie’s Kids, and the Charleston County Medical Society.

Congratulations Nurse Baker!  Your dedication and creativity have helped everyone in our state recognize what we at Moultrie have known for years -- you are the BEST!

In order to access the Parent Portal, you will need access to a computer with internet access and a working e-mail account, to which you alone have access.

If you want to access Parent Portal, you must first e-mail the following information to:

From the Principal

Dear Moultrie Families,

Welcome back to a brand new year!  2012 promises to be full of continued success for Moultrie Middle and we are looking forward to a productive second semester.  Speaking of the new semester, January 11 is the last day of first semester and students will be out of school from January 12-16.  Teachers have workdays and professional development on January 12 and 13 and school is closed on January 16 for the Martin Luther King Holiday.  Students will start their third quarter schedules on Tuesday, January 17th.  Report cards will be sent home with students on January 18.  Please pay close attention to your students progress and feel free to call or email the teachers or grade level counselors for additional information or to set up a conference.

Within the next month, we will be implementing a new communication tool called Parent Portal.  This will allow you to access up-to date information on your childs grades and attendance.  You will be able to simply click on your childs grade in a class and see the complete list of assignments and grades; and be able to e-mail your childs teachers by simply clicking on their name within the grade book.  In order to access the Parent Portal, you will need access to a computer with internet access and a working e-mail account, to which you alone have access

PowerSchool Parent Portal is:
·  A tool to enhance communication
·  Not meant to replace face-to-face contact with teachers
·  A great conversation-starter between you and your child

PowerSchool provides real-time, online access to your childs grades, attendance, assignments and more!

Who May Access PowerSchool?
All parents/guardians who have students in Charleston County School District and students will eventually have access to PowerSchool.

How Do I Request A Username and Password?
Information will be provided on how to obtain a username and password. No usernames/passwords will be given out via phone in order to protect student information.

Can Anyone Else Obtain Access To My Childs Information?
As long as you do not share your password, others will not be able to see your childs information. Each child/parent is issued a different username and password.

When Can I Access PowerSchool?
You may access PowerSchool at any time, day or night from any computer that is connected to the Internet (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.).

Why Do My Childs Grades Not Add Up Correctly?
Different grading scales and weightings are applied to different types of assignments. Simply adding scores will not indicate that a childs grades are incorrect.

If you have not given the school your current email address, please send it to our data clerk, Marjie Clark at majorie_clark@charleston.k12.sc.usand include Email Address in the subject line.  While you may have shared your email with teachers, we need to ensure we have it in the Powerschool database managed by Mrs. Clark.  We will need all of the email addresses for anyone listed as a guardian of a student.   Stay tuned for further updates regarding Parent Portal.

Thank you as always for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year!

With Warmest Regards,

Anna Dassing, Principal
