It is very important that parents understand that knowledge is more important than grades. We are dedicated to providing the best education possible and are proud that Wando High School teachers recognize our Moultrie students because our students distinguish themselves above all others in academics. We have also received recognition from Bishop England and Academic Magnet regarding how well prepared our Moultrie students are for the rigors of tough course work. Teachers are challenging students to think, to critically analyze, and to hypothesize. Seventh grade is typically a turning point for students. They are leaving childhood behind and are trying to adjust to rigorous coursework. First nine weeks report card grades usually reflect that struggle. The easy As earned in elementary school are now a true reflection (in 7th and 8th grade) of the highest qualitywork; and it is sometimes a rude awakening for students and parents alike. We are one of the top ten middle schools in the state. Moultrie students increased test scores 12% last year and reduced the achievement gap by 40%. Nationally, we rank in the 92nd percentile in reading and literacy. To lower our standards of work is unthinkable. So parents, I ask that you: Encourage your student to work hard and think; prioritize education: and place emphasis on what your student has learned rather than grades. With your support and understanding, we can continue as the flagship school in the district.
